Refocus for Newark wine shop in 2017

December 1st, 2016

Ann Hayes, owner of Ann et Vin Wine Shop and Wine Merchants in Newark on Trent Nottinghamshire

Ann Hayes,
owner of Ann et Vin

Wine entrepreneur and owner, Ann Hayes is refocusing her efforts on making Ann et Vin the wine shop destination for consumers who appreciate good wine by providing easy access to a wide range of both fine quality and affordable everyday wines. Said Ann:

“After much deep thought and consultation with our customers and consumers, we’ve realised that it’s time for us to go back to basics and focus wholly on offering wines, spirits and liqueurs. As such the coffee shop and bar will be closing from 31st December 2016.

“There’s a huge demand locally for wines that have been independently sourced and recommended based on personal experience – that’s something you can’t really get in a supermarket as they tend to promote the wines they have bought in bulk, which are not necessarily the best examples of the wines available.”

Increased breadth of depth of wine stocks

Ann et Vin, wine shop and wine merchant in Newark, Nottinghamshire She continues:

“By returning to a dedicated wine shop, we’ll be able to increase the breadth of our wine stocks, allowing consumers to enjoy wines that aren’t always available elsewhere, and we’ll also be offering selections of special hand-picked wines for people to discover and fall in love with. Customers can be assured of continued value for money, combined with a smile.”

 Personalised wine service

“Over the years, we’ve developed very close relationships with our customers, getting to know what wines they enjoy and being able to recommend different wines that they might enjoy, based on their likes and dislikes. That level of personalized advice and individual customer service is appreciated by everyone who steps inside the shop.”

Newark’s hidden wine shop gem

Nestled on Castle Gate in the heart of Newark, Ann et Vin has often been described as an Aladdin’s Cave of Wine and a real hidden gem. Ann says:

“We have a fabulous retail location in Newark with convenient, free parking for wine shoppers. We know that there is strong support for independent local retailers in our vibrant market town and we hope that support will continue.

“We look forward to offering regular Saturday tasting events between 11am and 4pm, bringing back gorgeous wine glassware, even more wine gifts, and further enhancing our whisky, gin, vodka, cognac, port, liqueur and spirit ranges.”

We want to share our love of wine with everyone

Ann et Vin Opening times“Everyone knows that Ann et Vin is a relaxed and happy place to shop for wine, without intimidation. We are definitely not wine snobs; we just want to share our love of wine with everyone.”

Although the coffee shop and wine bar will be closing on 31st December 2016, the wine shop venue will still be available for private hire, parties and charity events.

Regular wine tastings and a bespoke wine event service

Saturday wine tastings at Ann et Vin, wine shop in Newark, Nottinghamshire In addition to the regular Saturday wine tastings, Ann and the team will also be offering a Bespoke Wine Event Services, including wine tasting events in the privacy of your own home, drinks receptions with canapés and a drinks service. Ann finishes:

I would like to personally thank all our lovely coffee, lunch and live music customers for your loyalty over the years, and hope you will still continue to come and see us to buy your wine!

“2017 will mark a new chapter in the story of Ann et Vin and we hope you all will continue to join and support us on our continuing Wine Journey.”

One Chain Vineyard “The Googly” Chardonnay & One Chain “The Wrong Un” Shiraz/Cabernet

May 4th, 2016

Ann has chosen some gorgeous wines for you try: One Chain Vineyard "The Googly" Chardonnay 2014, One Chain "The Wrong Un" Shiraz/Cabernet 2014 The Cricket Series wines are inspired by a love for the Australian national sport. Indeed, the name One Chain is the imperial measurement for 22 yards, or the length of a cricket pitch. However, you really don’t need to be a connoisseur of the game to be bowled over by the restrained, elegant style of the Chardonnay and the bright red fruit and subtle oak of the Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasting notes: The Googly: Crisp, lively and bright, this citrus scented Chardonnay is well balanced, with tropical fruit and melon on the palate before presenting a vibrant, textured finish. The Wrong’un: A rich, well balanced example of the Aussie classic blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Lush black fruits coupled with touches of wood spice, liquorice and cassis follow through to a delicious, velvety finish. This wine is consistently good from vintage to vintage.

Jazz Supper – review of The Tony Giles All Stars

March 18th, 2015

Jazz Supper at Ann et Vin

A review of The Tony Giles All Stars, featuring Guy Garrett, by John Toogood

The Tony Giles All Stars

The Tony Giles All Stars

"The first of five Sunday Night Jazz Supper evenings, held on the third Sunday of the month at the well- appointed Ann et Vin Wine Bar in Newark, commenced last Sunday with the sensational Tony Giles All Stars Quintet and guest vocalist Guy Garrett setting the high-jump bar very high for fellow musicians to emulate over the forthcoming summer months. "The backbone of the ‘All Stars’ are proven soloists from the ranks of The Good Guys Orchestra, and did not disappoint the fifty or so diners who were able to enjoy a most acceptable hot supper, whilst listening to and enjoying some funky, Latin, or evergreen standards from a well chosen choice of composers and arrangers to suit all tastes.
"Fronting the band was multi-instrumental reed player Tony Giles, with the equally talented Thom Whitworth who alternated between Trumpet and Guitar as required, alongside him. The Rhythm section consisted of Mark Ferguson (Piano) Ed Hemsley (Bass) and Andy ‘Sticks’ Thomas appropriately enough behind the drum kit.
Guy Garrett

Guy Garrett

"The line up was completed by Band Leader, Vocalist, Raconteur and general ‘Good Guy’ Guy Garrett who entertained us with songs as varied as “All of Me”,”Fly Me to the Moon” and “Summertime” with a clever segue into “Moondance”. "The whole tone of this most enjoyable evening was set by the opening  number  ‘Mercy, Mercy, Mercy’ the well know soul-jazz number that was a huge hit for Cannonball Adderley in 1966. This 20-Bar structure tune, with four distinctive sections, had us all toe-tapping from the outset, and did not let up for the next couple of hours. The sheer variety, enthusiasm and quality of the playing and singing is hard to fault, and I predict that this new venture, on what is usually a ‘quiet’ night for us jazz fans, will be a huge success, it certainly deserves to be.  "The next  Jazz Supper Evening is at 7.30 on Sunday 17th May, and features The Shannon Reilly Trio.....book early on 01636 700 900 to avoid disappointment for what again promises to be a memorable evening."
